About & trust
Why you can trust MedStar with your care
Choosing where to go for reproductive healthcare is a decision about trust. This page sets out who we are, how we work and the standards you can hold us to.

Our approach
MedStar Women’s Clinic provides reproductive healthcare for women in South Africa. Our approach rests on four commitments.
- Respect. You are the expert on your own life. We give you information and support; the decisions are yours.
- Privacy. Your enquiry, your consultation and your records are confidential.
- Clinical care first. Nobody is offered treatment until a healthcare professional has assessed what is appropriate for them.
- Honesty. We explain risks and alternatives plainly, and we tell you when something is not suitable for you.
Our clinicians
In South Africa, doctors are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and nurses and midwives with the South African Nursing Council (SANC). You are entitled to know the name and registration of the professional caring for you, and you can check a registration with either council.
Clinical standards
Termination of pregnancy in South Africa is governed by the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Act 92 of 1996. The Act sets out who may provide the service at each stage of pregnancy and the requirements for facilities where terminations take place. The National Department of Health also publishes a national clinical guideline for implementing the Act.
What this means in practice for you:
- an assessment before any treatment is offered
- an explanation of the risks and alternatives before you consent
- clear instructions on what to expect and when to get help
- follow-up after treatment
Confidentiality
The law provides that the identity of a woman who has requested or obtained a termination of pregnancy must remain confidential unless she chooses to disclose it. Only your own informed consent is required for your care.
This website is built with the same principle. It sets no cookies, counts visits only as anonymous daily totals, loads no third-party maps or fonts, and has a “Quick exit” button on every page. Our enquiry form does not store what you type. Read ourprivacy notice and our guide to confidentiality and your rights.
Patient support and aftercare
Care continues after treatment. You are told what to expect, how to reach us, and which signs mean you should seek medical help. Follow-up confirms that you are recovering well. See aftercare and follow-up.
If you are unhappy with any part of your care, we want to know. Tell us by WhatsApp, phone or atprowomens@gmail.com and we will respond personally.

We also support women in other parts of South Africa where we do not have a walk-in clinic. We keep the two clearly separate: see our clinic and the areas we support.
How our information is written
The health information on this website is written from authoritative sources such as the World Health Organization and South African legislation and guidelines. Each page lists its sources, and shows when it was last updated. Our editorial policy explains the process in full.
